What do you want the NHS to look like at 100?
Last year, over 340,000 people spoke to Healthwatch England about what matters to them when it comes to the support they get from NHS and social care services.
The way in which NHS and social care services support people is changing.
Why? Well, there are a number of reasons. Demand for help from services is increasing as more people live longer and more people need help with long-term conditions.
Advances in medicine are resulting in new treatments and cures, while technology is making looking after our own health easier. There is also a rising expectation that the support we get should be convenient and personalised.
Why sharing your views is important
In response, the Government has asked the NHS to develop a plan help prevent ill health and improve the support you get. They have agreed to give the NHS more money to help make this happen. The Government has also announced that it will publish proposals on improving social care for older people.
We believe that it’s essential your voice is heard, not just in these future plans, but in also in decisions about the much longer term. That’s why we’re holding a national conversation about what you want to see when the NHS turns 80, 90 & 100.
We want you to tell us what you think about the three topics below. We'll share what you say with those in charge of making decisions to help make change happen.
1. Your health and care needs
How will our future health and care needs be different in the coming decades? And what different kinds of support might we need to stay well and manage any conditions we face?
2. Roles, responsibilities and relationships
What role would you like to play in your care? How could your relationship with doctors, nurses and other care professionals be different? Do you think other organisations or individuals (e.g. employers ) could play a greater role in supporting your health and care?
3. Role of technology
Technology - like artificial intelligence, use of health data and robotics - has the potential to transform health and care support. What do you like about the potential impact of technology and what concerns you?
