Giving you a voice on health and social care

How your voice is helping make health and social care services better

In 2016/17 we heard over 1500 comments from people about their experiences of health and social care services in Bradford District.

Published last week, our fourth Annual Report sets out how together we’re helping to put your views at the heart of local care.
Our close connections to people in Bradford have enabled us to find out what you think of current services, and how you would like them to change in the future. As well as speaking to people who contact us to share their stories, we’ve regularly spoken to people at BRI, Airedale General Hospital and other venues.

Thanks to our volunteers

As ever, everything we do has been supported by our fantastic volunteers. 28 people have worked with us this year, going out into communities to listen to people’s views, and travelling far and wide to make sure that everybody has a chance to make their voice heard.

Highlights from the year

Our Annual Report sets out how we’ve worked together to use people’s views to inform improvements to services.

  • Our work on autism has had significant impact in drawing attention to the issue of waiting times for diagnosis, and funding for the adult diagnostic service was increased earlier this year by 45%. You can read about how one family’s experience shaped our work in the report.
  • We heard from 461 people through our online surveys. This included people’s experiences of A&E at Airedale and BRI. We will follow up on issues identified in this engagement in the coming year to try to uncover more about how the system can best be designed to help local people.
  • As we move forward and the landscape of health and social care changes, we will work with all our partners to make sure that local people’s views and experiences are at the heart of any changes to services.

It starts with you

Manager of Healthwatch Bradford and District, Victoria Simmons, said “Without your views and your voices, Healthwatch would have no purpose or power.”

If you have an experience you’d like to share, no matter how big or small – we want to hear about it. Together we can make an even bigger difference this coming year, so get in touch. #ItStartsWithYou
