Six golden rules to help osteoporosis patients have follow-up conversations with their GP

The six golden rules resource is a short video intended to to help inform individuals about bone health and fracture prevention, and help to promote patient confidence when approaching doctors to ask for further investigations.

The Falls and Fragility Fractures Audit Programme (FFFAP) patient and carer panel at the Royal College of Physicians is a group of 10 patient and carer volunteers.

The role of the panel is to bring the patient and carer perspective to the overall FFFAP Programme and each of its workstreams, including the Fracture Liaison Service Database (FLS-DB).

The FLS-DB team together with patient and carer panel members have worked with the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), the Royal College of General Practitioners (RGCP), the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) and the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) to develop the six golden rules video to help inform individuals about bone health and fracture prevention, and help to promote patient confidence when approaching doctors to ask for further investigations.

The resource compliments the strong bones after 50 toolkit and bone health card resource (also co-produced with patients and carers), and is intended to encourage patients to have follow up conversations with their GP after being recommended to take medication by mouth for osteoporosis.
