Video launched to support families with babies to help them sleep safely

NHS teams in Bradford have launch a new video for parents and carers offering safer sleep advice.

Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership has been working with parent education teams at Airedale Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary after the Lullaby Trust expressed concern over the impact increasing social deprivation may have on the numbers of babies dying due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in light of the current cost-of-living crisis.

Increased fuel costs can make it harder to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home, particularly during the colder months. A room temperature of 16-20°C – with light bedding or a lightweight, well-fitting baby sleep bag– is comfortable and safe for sleeping babies.

The Better Births programme in collaboration with Bradford Council are providing free room thermometers to new parents through the winter months. Midwives hand these to new parents/carers at discharge along with an explanation of how to use it. You can ask your midwife or health visitor for advice on using the thermometer and safe sleep.

Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, Bradford Council and Community Action Bradford and District’s website gives trusted information, handy hints and tips to help lighten the load, and signpost to services to support if people are struggling. It includes information about government support, energy and bills, food resources, housing support, debt and gambling, savings, scams and safeguarding.
