Statement following the Parliamentary debate on the future of Healthwatch
During the debate, parliamentarians from across the political spectrum raised questions about how patient and public voice will be protected under the proposed reforms. We believe any future arrangements must preserve the independence, credibility and trust that local communities place in Healthwatch.
For more than a decade, Healthwatch organisations across England have provided an independent route for people to share their experiences of health and social care services. We have listened to people across the district, amplified their voices, and worked with providers and commissioners to improve services. Our ability to do this effectively relies on being independent from the organisations we scrutinise.
While debate on the Health Bill continues, our commitment to the people of Bradford District remains unchanged. We continue to gather feedback, champion people's experiences, and work alongside partners to improve health and social care services across our district.
We will continue to monitor the progress of the Health Bill and will keep you updated on any changes and what they could mean for our community. We encourage local people and community organisations to share their views about these proposals with their MP. Our colleagues at Healthwatch Leeds have also developed a template for anyone who wants to share their concerns with their MP. To view this please click here.
Your voices - the voices of patients, carers and communities matter. Independent representation matters. Whatever reforms are ultimately agreed, those voices must continue to be heard.
