New name for first point of contact for services in Adult Social Care in Bradford

The first point of contact when accessing services in Adult Social Care in Bradford is changing its name to The Independence Advice Hub.

The change from "Access" comes as part of digital advancements which are helping people stay more independent in their own homes.

Bradford Council said: "We are living in an age where life expectancy is increasing, technology is advancing at a rapid rate and more support is available for us all to tap into so that we can do things for ourselves rather than rely on others.

The service will continue to offer support and advice and the Independence Advisors - who act as a guide, mentor and coach, helping callers find tailor-made solutions that meet their individual needs - "will discuss opportunities including digital offers, self-service possibilities and community alternatives to paid-for services by looking at a person’s strengths, skills and the resources that they have in their life".

The advisors will offer guidance on a range of options available to a person from universal services, services that enable people to stay connected and engaged in their community. They also advise on a range of services which people can purchase including equipment, technology solutions and demonstration centres.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “The aim of our ‘Home First Vision’ absolutely reflects how we all want to live our lives now and in the future, and the Independence Advice Hub provides solutions in helping people stay independent not just in their homes but in carrying out daily activities.

With the rapid advancement of technology, we are now seeing a wealth of digital support for those that need it and the advisors can now talk through options available.

Other apps are available to support residents including Able4Life Bradford which provides support to stay active and engaged in the community.

The Life Curve app can also be used to check how fit and independent you are and help you plan to age well in the future.

Bradford Council also works closely with Equality Together who have a wealth of equipment to see and an occupational therapist who can demonstrate how these can be utilised to promote your independence.
